Lipari, Aeolian Islands

Lipari

Lipari is the island that in ancient times gave its name to all the Aeolian Islands, once known as the Lipari Islands. Thanks to its crystalline sea and its natural historical beauties, it is the ideal place to spend a holiday that combines the relaxation of the sea with the charm of history.

Lipari is the largest island of the Aeolian archipelago, it offers cultural and seaside tourism. Its breathtaking views remain vivid in the memory of the visitors, the majestic fortress of the castle, the cathedral where in its foundations we find the remains of the cloister of the Norman abbey, its stacks and beaches of different nature, in fact we pass from white beaches (pumice) to black ones (obsidian and lava).

The Aeolian Regional Archaeological Museum, housed in the Castle of Lipari, is among the most important in Europe and contains artifacts dating back to the prehistoric age.

Lovers of nightlife and entertainment can sit in one of the open-air pubs and restaurants of Marina Corta, or discover the charm of the bars on Via Garibaldi and Corso Vittorio Emanuele.

Of great interest are also the patronal feasts that are celebrated in all the islands. The most characteristic are the processions to the sea, shows of various kinds and festivals with tastings of typical Aeolian products. The most important is undoubtedly on 24 August, with the celebration of St. Bartholomew, protector of the islands.
